Lo! Another birthday cometh.

The imminent approach of September birthdays got me thinking about the woo-woo that happens in life. So here’s some woo-woo from my life.

Our Marriage:  The CEO and I got married on April 6th (incidentally the birthday of two of my friends… now three of my friends!). Two days before our wedding, my father-in-law tells us that that’s the day his mother died.  So now we’re primed for the presence of ghostly ancestors at our wedding (both of my father-in-law’s parents had died long before).

On the day of our wedding, the marriage celebrant writes the CEO’s name on our fancy wedding certificate with his first and middle name inverted — his grandfather’s name (father-in-law’s father!).

Fast forward five years: I was pregnant with the TeenWolf. He was due Sept 24th which was a huge joke amongst both families because haha-born-on-the-same-day-as-his-father-did-we-arrange-for-that (most emphatically, no!).  But we all know babies don’t always arrive to schedule, so we put it to the back of our minds.

Then one day, we were sitting around my in-laws’ place, discussing baby names (we’d decided to give him my father’s name as his middle name) and chatting about wouldn’t-it-be-funny-if-the-baby-did-show-up-on-time, when it occurs to me for the first time (baby brain, ok! don’t give me a hard time) that we are giving our child the same initials as his father, and if he’s born on the same day as well, the CEO will be insufferable! (ok, only I was thinking that.  Pretty much everyone else was delighted at the symmetry and serendipity of it all).

Of course, for the first (and possibly only) time in his life, the TeenWolf shows up according to schedule. Two of them, same initials (first, middle, and last), born on the 24th of Sept.  Happily, I was wrong, the CEO has not been insufferable.

This year, to celebrate the double birthday, I get got a birthday gift, since I was the one who had to labour through labour.

Happy birthday to all the September babies!

  1. I was born on my father’s birthday, and my niece was born on my brother’s birthday. That’s the woo-woo in our family.
Happy birthday to the CEO & TeenWolf!

    • Yay for the woo-woo! I do love shared birthdays within a family. It feels like a convenient excuse to be even closer to that family member. Thank you for the birthday wishes too!
