Poetry and Palestine

On August 31, 2025 six poets performed together for the first time for the Perth Poetry Festival. We each responded to Warsan Shire’s poem ‘Home’ and Mahmoud Darwish’s ‘Diary of a Palestinian Wound’.
The poems ranged from deeply personal musings to songs of solidarity to calls to action… any action. They were filled with heart and sorrow and rage that transcend political affiliations or national loyalties. They were also filled with humanity and hope and pleas to the more compassionate parts of ourselves that recognise the plight of those who are suffering.
Now these poems have been collected together in this chapbook, ‘More than a Lament’ available through The Writers Collective. The poets have donated their time and poetry to this project and proceeds go to the Gaza Soup Kitchen. You can purchase a copy ($15AUD) from here. There are some stunning poems in this collection from inspiring poets that I feel honoured to be amongst.
